Can you get Wi-Fi from the dish to the rest of the property?
Yes, and this is usually where the real work is. Getting a signal from a router in one corner of a building to a garage, boathouse, shop, bunkie, or second floor is a design problem, not a shopping problem. The reliable approach is a mesh or multi-access-point layout with a wired backhaul where a cable can be run, or a point-to-point wireless link between separate structures where it cannot — rather than a chain of consumer extenders, each halving the speed of the one before it. Thick logs, stone chimneys, foil-backed insulation, and metal roofs all shape where the access points have to sit.
Will Starlink work for a business, or for remote work and video calls?
For plenty of businesses in places wired service does not reach, it is the connection that made operating there practical at all. The honest caveats: it is a shared satellite service, so performance varies with congestion and heavy weather, and consumer-tier service normally sits behind carrier-grade NAT, which means no public inbound IP address for hosting or for older site-to-site VPN setups. What about snow, ice, wind, and Ontario winters?
The dish has a built-in heater that melts snow off the panel, but it will not clear a drift that builds up around it, and it draws noticeably more power while it is working at that. What matters more is the install: a mount rated for the wind loads at height, positioned so snow shedding off a roof does not land on the dish or rip the cable, a cable run with a drip loop and no standing-water path into the building, and a sealed penetration that does not become an ice dam. Poor winter performance is far more often an installation problem than an equipment problem.
Our Starlink is already installed but performs badly. Can you fix it?
That is a large share of what we get called for. The usual findings are the same few things: a dish with a partly blocked view of the sky that nobody re-checked once the leaves came in, a cable that has been kinked, pinched, or run beyond spec, the provider router struggling to cover a building it was never going to cover, everything on one flat network competing with itself, or power that keeps dropping the equipment.
